ICLEI  – Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of local governments and national / regional local government Founded in 1990, ICLEI with its 1,200 members is the largest association of local governments dedicated to sustainable development.

This year, ICLEI is celebrating 20 years of work on sustainable procurement. The anniversary was launched at a ceremony in Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum on 27 April as part of the 8th European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns.

Over the last two decades, many ICLEI Members and public authorities ICLEI has been working with have been including sustainability aspects in their procurement policies and procedures to achieve resource efficient, low-carbon and socially responsible societies. ICLEI has also worked with sustainable procurement experts from cities and organisations worldwide on numerous projects and initiatives related to sustainable and innovation procurement.

At ICLEI, this opportunity was used to relaunch the SP Platform and revamp the Procura+ European Sustainable Procurement Network. ICLEI has also launched a new twitter account @sppglobal, which is dedicated to all things SPP. ICLEI is celebrating the anniversary and inviting you to share your achievements and thoughts on SPP using the hashtag #SPPecialists.

ICLEI looks forward to seeing what the next 20 years bring!
